Overview

Kagoshima Shrine is a historic shrine located in Kagoshima City, Kagoshima Prefecture. Long revered as Satsuma Ichinomiya (the most important shrine in the Satsuma province), it holds a significant place in local history. The enshrined deities are Takemikazuchi-no-kami and Futsunushi-no-kami, both figures from Japanese mythology. Takemikazuchi-no-kami is known as the god of thunder, while Futsunushi-no-kami is known for subduing the land. The shrine's history stretches back to the late 7th century. It flourished under the patronage of the Satsuma feudal lords. During the Meiji period, it was elevated to the rank of Kanpei Taisha (a national shrine), and it continues to attract numerous worshippers today. Kagoshima Shrine's buildings are magnificent and beautifully crafted. The main hall, with its vibrant vermillion paint, is designated an Important Cultural Property of Japan. The grounds feature a lush green forest, creating a sacred and peaceful atmosphere. Known as a power spot, Kagoshima Shrine is said to leave visitors feeling refreshed and invigorated, both mentally and physically. Various sub-shrines are located within the grounds, each offering its own blessings. Kagoshima Shrine is a recommended tourist spot where you can feel the weight of history and tradition, cleanse your mind and body, and recharge your energy. Be sure to visit Kagoshima Shrine during your trip.
