Ride the Beppu Ropeway and take in the breathtaking views of the magnificent Beppu Bay and Yufu-dake volcano as you ascend Mount Tsurumi. Enjoy the beautiful scenery throughout the four seasons.
The Beppu Ropeway is a cable car that connects the foot and summit of Mount Tsurumi (1,374.5m) in Beppu City, Oita Prefecture. Operated by Beppu Ropeway Co., Ltd., it's part of the Kintetsu Group. Opened on December 21, 1962, its gondolas, with a capacity of 101 passengers, were a world first at the time. Even today, two gondolas, each carrying up to 101 passengers, operate, taking approximately 10 minutes to reach the summit station. From the gondola, you can enjoy a 360-degree panoramic view of Beppu Bay, Yufu-dake volcano, and, on clear days, even Shikoku and the Kujū mountain range. A 15-minute walk from the summit station leads to the peak of Mount Tsurumi. The summit features an observation deck and well-maintained walking trails, allowing you to fully appreciate the beauty of nature throughout the year. Enjoy cherry blossoms in spring, autumn leaves in fall, and potentially even rime ice on the mountain in winter. The Beppu Ropeway is a quintessential Beppu sightseeing spot, attracting many tourists. It offers various ways to enjoy your visit, including an observation deck with panoramic views of Beppu city and walking trails leading to the summit of Mount Tsurumi. The views from the summit are especially spectacular, offering majestic scenery of Beppu Bay and Yufu-dake volcano. The Beppu Ropeway is popular among couples and families, guaranteeing a memorable sightseeing experience.
