Daikanbo is a 935.9m mountain in Aso City, Kumamoto Prefecture, and the highest peak of the northern rim of the Aso caldera. Located at the northern edge of the Aso caldera, it's known as Aso's premier observation point, offering panoramic views of the Aso Five Mountains, the Kuju mountain range, and the vast caldera. The name Daikanbo (Great View Peak) was given by Tokutomi Soho, a Meiji-era literary figure and journalist, signifying "a great view of the peaks." Historically known as "Tokimi-ga-hana" (Far-seeing Nose), it has long been cherished as a spot offering breathtaking views. From Daikanbo, you can enjoy a 360-degree panoramic view of Aso's magnificent landscape. Before you lies the majestic Aso Five Mountains. Behind them rise the Kuju mountains, and in the distance, you can see Mount Sobo and the Aso caldera rim, showcasing the grandeur of Aso's scenery.
