The Ikitsuki Sunset Way is the road itself; there are no entrance fees. However, please note that some parking lots and facilities in the surrounding area, such as the Takano-Su Observatory, may charge fees. Also, since Ikitsuki Island is a remote island, it's recommended to book your meals and accommodation in advance.
Iki Sunset Way is the nickname for the road connecting Tateura near the Iki Island Bridge to Shiodaira on the western side of Iki Island in Hirado City, Nagasaki Prefecture. It's named for the stunning sunsets over the East China Sea that can be enjoyed during a drive along it. The contrast between the steep cliffs, the coastline, and the blue sea is absolutely breathtaking! The scenery feels almost foreign, unlike anywhere else in Japan.
The evening twilight is particularly magical; the fantastical scenery of the sky and sea painted in orange hues is unbelievably beautiful. Iki Sunset Way is also famous as a location for commercials, having been featured in ads for Toyo Tires, Audi, Mazda MPV, Nissan X-Trail, Honda Fit, and others. It's also frequently used in dramas and films, so you might even recognize it!
If you drive the Iki Sunset Way, be sure to stop by Takano-Su Observation Deck. From the deck, you can enjoy a panoramic view of Iki Island and the East China Sea. The moment the sun sets is truly breathtaking.
Iki Sunset Way is perfect for driving, touring, and cycling. Create unforgettable memories while enjoying the majestic nature and the beauty of the sunset.
