The Takamatsu Port Tamamo Breakwater Lighthouse, located in Takamatsu Port, Kagawa Prefecture, is the world's first all-glass lighthouse. First lit in 1998, it's affectionately known as 'Setoshirube' and is a beloved symbol of Sunport Takamatsu.
The lighthouse stands at the tip of the Tamamo breakwater, extending approximately 540 meters northeast from the central pier of Takamatsu Port. It's a five-story steel structure, approximately 14 meters tall, built with 1,600 translucent glass blocks measuring 19cm square. During the day, it offers stunning panoramic views of the calm Seto Inland Sea and the cityscape of Takamatsu, making it a popular sightseeing spot.
The sunset is particularly breathtaking, with the beautiful contrast of the orange sky and sea captivating many photography enthusiasts.
At night, the entire lighthouse glows red, creating a magical and enchanting scene. The light leaking from the glass blocks illuminates the surrounding sea, adding to its mystical atmosphere. It harmonizes beautifully with the Takamatsu night view, creating a romantic ambiance.
In 2018, it was certified as one of Japan's 'Three Great Night Lighthouses,' further increasing its popularity.
