Experience Awa Odori all year round!
A hall where you can see traditional performing arts up close, and a museum where you can learn about its history.
Overview
The Awa Odori Kaikan is a cultural facility in Tokushima City, Tokushima Prefecture, dedicated to Awa Odori. Opened in July 1999, it has since introduced the charm of Awa Odori to countless people. Inside, you'll find the Awa Odori Museum, where you can learn about the history and culture of Awa Odori, and the Awa Odori Hall, where you can actually watch Awa Odori performances. The museum exhibits Awa Odori costumes and musical instruments, and uses videos and panels to provide detailed explanations of the origins, history, and contemporary aspects of Awa Odori. The hall features Awa Odori performances throughout the year, including the Kaikan's resident troupe, "Awa no Kaze," and performances by famous troupes. During the day, four 40-minute performances by the resident troupe are held, and in the evening, one 50-minute performance by one of the 33 renowned troupes affiliated with the Awa Odori Promotion Association and the Tokushima Branch of the Tokushima Prefecture Awa Odori Association takes place. At the Awa Odori Kaikan, you can not only watch Awa Odori but also experience dancing alongside the performers. A tourist information center providing information about sightseeing spots in Tokushima Prefecture is also located within the facility, making it an ideal base for exploring Tokushima. When visiting Tokushima, be sure to stop by the Awa Odori Kaikan and experience the allure of Awa Odori.
