Ako Castle Ruins is a beautiful park, ablaze with cherry blossoms in spring. It's free to visit!
Ako Castle Ruins is located in Ako City, Hyogo Prefecture. It's the former site of the castle where the lords of the Ako Domain resided. Construction began in 1617 (Genna 3) under Asano Naganao. Subsequent lords of the Ako Domain made renovations, shaping the castle into its current form. The castle was abandoned in 1871 (Meiji 4) with the abolition of the feudal domains. Today, it's a beautifully maintained park, free to explore. You can still see remnants of the Honmaru (main enclosure), Ninomaru (second enclosure), and Sanmaru (third enclosure). The views of Ako City from the castle grounds are stunning. The park is especially popular in spring when the cherry blossoms are in full bloom, often featuring night cherry blossom viewing events. Ako Castle Ruins is a highly recommended spot to experience history and nature.
