Mayayama Kukusei-dai Observatory is known as a stunning viewpoint offering panoramic views of Kobe city. Located at an elevation of 690 meters, it boasts a 360-degree panorama stretching from Osaka Bay to Kobe city and the Rokko mountain range. Its nighttime view is particularly renowned, considered one of Japan's three major night views, captivating countless visitors with its beauty. As the sun sets, the sky is painted in vibrant blues, and lights begin to twinkle in the harbor—a breathtaking sight. The lights of Kobe city shimmer like jewels, while distant mountains stand out in silhouette, creating a fantastical landscape. During the daytime, you can enjoy a magnificent panorama encompassing the Rokko mountain range, Osaka Bay, and on clear days, even Awaji Island and the Seto Inland Sea in the distance. Some say that on exceptionally clear days, you can even spot the distant silhouette of Mount Fuji. Kukusei-dai features the "Maya★Kirakira Ko-michi" (Maya Sparkling Path), a walkway paved with fluorescent material. At night, blacklights illuminate the entire path in blue, creating a magical atmosphere. This walkway is popular among couples, bustling with people taking commemorative photos against the backdrop of the night view. The observatory is accessible via the Maya Cable Car and Maya Ropeway from Shin-Kobe Station. You can enjoy the cityscape and mountain views from the cable car and ropeway windows as well. Mayayama has long been known as a sacred mountain, and atop it sits Toryo Tenjo-ji Temple, an ancient temple. Founded in the Heian period, this temple enshrines Maya, the mother of Buddha, from whom the mountain takes its name. Mayayama also offers many other attractions, including the Mayayama Nature Observation Park and Hodakako Lake. Mayayama is a captivating tourist destination where nature and culture harmoniously coexist. Be sure to visit Mayayama Kukusei-dai and experience the breathtaking views of Kobe city.
