"Hottarakashi Onsen" is a popular onsen facility in Yamanashi City, Yamanashi Prefecture, attracting approximately 450,000 visitors annually.
The name, meaning "abandoned hot spring," originates from a legend about a local landowner who, upon discovering a naturally occurring hot spring, simply left it untouched.
The facility boasts two distinct hot spring sources, "Kotchi no Yu" and "Atchi no Yu," each with separate indoor and outdoor baths for men and women.
"Atchi no Yu" opens an hour before sunrise, attracting many visitors eager to witness the sunrise while soaking in the hot spring. Opening time varies seasonally; around 4 AM from May to July and around 6 AM from December to February.
At night, you can marvel at the starlit sky and the dazzling city lights.
The expansive outdoor baths offer breathtaking views of the Kofu Basin below, and on clear days, Mount Fuji is also visible.
