One of the world's three major dinosaur museums, offering breathtaking exhibits of dinosaur skeletons, fossils, and dioramas.
Overview
Located in Katsuyama City, Fukui Prefecture, the Fukui Prefectural Dinosaur Museum is a must-visit for any dinosaur enthusiast. Recognized as one of the world's three major dinosaur museums, it attracts many visitors from Japan and abroad. The museum consists of two buildings: the main building, which displays dinosaur skeletons, fossils, and dioramas; and a new building featuring special exhibitions and fossil research experience facilities. The main building's dome-shaped, pillarless space houses approximately 50 complete dinosaur skeletons, a truly awe-inspiring sight. Among them are precious skeletons of Fukuiraptor and Fukuisaurus, dinosaurs discovered in Fukui Prefecture, which can only be seen here. The new building offers new content, including impressive 3-screen projections and fossil research experiences where you can feel the cutting edge of paleontological research. Around the museum, you'll find an outdoor dinosaur museum and actual dinosaur fossil excavation sites, allowing you to delve even deeper into the world of dinosaurs. At the outdoor dinosaur museum, you can even try your hand at excavating by chipping away at rocks unearthed from the excavation site—you might just discover a dinosaur fossil! If you visit the museum, be sure to check out the outdoor dinosaur museum as well.
