Ninety-Nine Bays (Kuju-kuwan), located in Noto-cho, Ishikawa Prefecture, is a breathtaking bay selected as one of Japan's 100 best views. This ria-type coastline boasts a complex network of inlets of varying sizes, creating a diverse and captivating landscape. At the bay's center lies Horaijima Island, its lush forest of Sudaji oak trees creating a scene reminiscent of a painting of the mythical Horai Island.
The beauty of Ninety-Nine Bays extends beyond its scenic splendor. A sightseeing boat cruise offers stunning panoramic views, with a stop at a fish farm for a fun fish-feeding experience. A well-maintained coastal promenade provides a pleasant walking path, allowing visitors to fully appreciate the abundant natural beauty.
Ninety-Nine Bays has also long been a thriving fishing area, offering opportunities to savor fresh seafood. Staying overnight at a nearby inn allows you to fully enjoy the breathtaking scenery from sunset to sunrise. For a more active experience, camping and barbecuing are also options at designated campgrounds.
Near Ninety-Nine Bays is the Noto Marine Touch Center, a facility dedicated to marine research, education, and outreach. It offers a variety of programs, including touch pools, snorkeling, seashell crafts, and salt-making experiences, making it a great destination for families with children.
On June 20, 2020, the "Noto Ninety-Nine Bays Tourism Exchange Center Ika no Eki Tsukumoru," featuring a restaurant, shops, and sightseeing boats, opened its doors. This area is gaining significant attention and is a must-visit destination to experience the charm of nature, history, and local cuisine.
