Overview

Ojiya Nishikigoi no Sato is a facility where you can experience the history and culture of Ojiya City, the birthplace of Nishikigoi. These carp, cultivated in the pure waters of this snowy region using traditional techniques, are known as "swimming jewels" for their elegant forms and unique coloration. The facility includes a park with ponds featuring Nishikigoi swimming amidst waterfalls and bridges, an exhibition hall showcasing the history, varieties, and breeding methods of Nishikigoi, and a hall with a viewing pond featuring particularly exceptional specimens. Visitors can even feed the Nishikigoi in the viewing pond. Ojiya Nishikigoi no Sato offers opportunities to appreciate Nishikigoi year-round. In spring, the "Echigo Ojiya Tategoi (Standing Carp) Competition" showcases carp that have successfully overwintered, while in autumn, the "Niigata Nishikigoi Competition (participating in the National Agricultural and Forestry Products Festival)" attracts many enthusiasts to Ojiya to admire the region's finest specimens. Ojiya Nishikigoi no Sato is a captivating facility where you can encounter not only the beauty of Nishikigoi, but also its history, culture, and the natural beauty of Ojiya City. Be sure to visit!
