Spend a whole day marveling at the Sea of Japan's large tank from a marine tunnel, watching the dolphin show, and interacting with penguins and sea lions!
Niigata City Aquarium Marinepia Japan Sea is one of the largest aquariums on the Sea of Japan coast, located in the Nishikaigan Koen area of Chuo-ku, Niigata Prefecture. It opened in July 1990 to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the city's establishment. It displays approximately 20,000 aquatic creatures of about 500 species, offering a firsthand look at the rich ecosystem of the Sea of Japan. The Sea of Japan's large tank is particularly impressive, a colossal 800 cubic meter tank stretching 30 meters in length. Walking through the marine tunnel, you can look up at the fish from the bottom of the tank, giving you the sensation of floating in the ocean. The dolphin show is also very popular, with breathtaking leaps and performances that showcase the dolphins' intelligence and physical abilities. You can also get up close and personal with penguins and sea lions, and even participate in interactive experiences. Other highlights include a tank recreating the Shinano River and an exhibit of deep-sea creatures. Marinepia Japan Sea is more than just an aquarium for viewing marine life; it's a place to contemplate the marine environment and the importance of conservation. It's a perfect spot for families, couples, and solo travelers. Come visit!
