Enjoy the seasonal flowers in this garden brimming with Edo-era charm.
Overview
Mukojima Hyakuen Garden is a beautiful garden established during the Edo period by Uemura Kanetomo, a scholar of Dutch learning, using his personal funds. This approximately 4,000-tsubo (approx. 13,200 sq m) garden boasts a vibrant array of seasonal flowers. The garden features a pond, bridges, and tea houses that evoke the atmosphere of Edo-era Japan, perfect for a leisurely stroll.
From cherry blossoms in spring, morning glories in summer, bush clovers in autumn, and camellias in winter, you can enjoy a variety of flowers throughout the year. Spring showcases a stunning array of cherry blossoms, including Someiyoshino and Yamazakura. Summer features a captivating morning glory exhibition, displaying a breathtaking collection of colorful flowers.
Autumn brings the beauty of blooming bush clovers, capturing the essence of the season. Winter sees camellias blooming, their vibrant red and pink colors standing out beautifully against the cold sky.
The garden also houses the "Hyakuen Shiryokan" (Hyakuen Museum), showcasing materials related to plants during the Edo period. Here, you can learn about plants cultivated during that era and related literature.
Mukojima Hyakuen Garden is perfect for those seeking a tranquil escape from the hustle and bustle of the city. Why not spend some peaceful time surrounded by the beautiful seasonal flowers?
