Kannoyama Jinno-ji Temple is a Shingon sect temple located in Kannoyama, Kimitsu City, Chiba Prefecture. According to temple tradition, it is said to be the oldest temple in the Kanto region, founded by Prince Shotoku during the reign of Empress Suiko (598 AD). It is also said to have been revived by the Shingon monk Ko-han during the Eisho period (1504-1521). Kannoyama is one of the three major sites of Shugendo (mountain asceticism) in the Kanto region, and has long been a place of faith for practitioners of this religious practice. Jinno-ji Temple sits on the slopes of Mount Kannoyama, with the entire mountain serving as a place of training and faith.
