Overview

Kogan-ji Nakata Kannon-do Hall is a Soto Zen Buddhist temple located in Aizumisato-machi, Fukushima Prefecture. Established in 1279, this historic temple houses a nearly 2-meter-tall eleven-faced Kannon statue as its principal image. It's famously known for the monthly visits made by Hideyo Noguchi's mother, who prayed for his recovery from burns and his success in life. The temple grounds feature a "daki-tsuki bashira" (hugging pillar), where it's said that embracing it will grant wishes. Kogan-ji Nakata Kannon-do Hall is also the 30th temple on the Aizu Thirty-three Kannon pilgrimage and one of the Aizu Korori 3 Kannon temples.
